What the film psycho is about? This film psycho was made in june 16th 1960. This is a horror thriller film and was one of the first thriller movie where you could see what looked like a lady getting stabbed. This film pursed a big fuss with the Americans as they did not believe in a toilet being shown on television, also they did not believe in the seeing a lady half naked, or in her underwear. However, Alfred Hitchcock still went on to publish it. Director of this film was Alfred Hitchcock, the stars were, Anthony Perkins, Vera Miles, John Gavin, and Janet Leigh. However, this film starts of with a young lady that is working and steals money from her work and runs away, however, she ends up getting killed by a motels owners mothers. who then goes on to kill another man, causing tension and suspense for the audience. This film was on of the very first films to show a young lady in the underwear and many exposed things. As when this film was made it was not allowed for all of this to happen as the American's were very strict on what could and could not be shown on televisions and cinema's.
About the trailer psycho?
The trailer for psycho shows a lot about what happens within the actually film. Therefore, it takes different clips form each section and puts them all different places, therefore, meaning it is almost like showing the film without all of the other details. However, this is very effective because then the audience are able to see what the film is going to be like and gives them an idea of what is going on within the film. Withing this trailer there is also an over voice telling us where they are and what is happening, not just this, but they also use different parts of the scene where the characters are talking as well, this will then make it more effective to the audience and make them want to watch the full film. This trailer is very effective as it mixes up all the different parts of the film so that it is not like watching it and so that the audience do not know what order it goes in.

About the stabbing scene of psycho:
This scene caused a very big fuss when the film was first ever released, the reason for this is because people claimed that they had seen someone being stabbed/murdered to death. However, this was not true, the reason for this is because straight cuts were used to give the effect that the young lady was being stabbed. However, where the audience in the 1960's had never seen something like this before it was a big shock and caused many people to be horrified, by what they though they had seen. On the other hand, this film become on of the most known films because of this scene and from then on people started to copy what was done within this film. However, within this scene it does not show the audience why the lady stabbed this young lady to death, or what the meaning of it was. Therefore, putting the audience on edge making them wonder what was going to happen next and whether the women was going to get caught. Therefore, making the audience wonder what is going to happen in the rest of the film.

Devices:
The devices that where used was suspense the reason for this is because it allows the audience to wonder what is going to happen and what is going to happen to the young lady in the beginning and the end of the film. Therefore, meaning that it allowed the audience to wonder what was going to happen next and whether the birds will ever go away. However, it builds up tension as it makes you wonder if it is the ladies thought why the birds came, as people were blaming her, or was it just a coincidence. On the other hand, at the end of this film it is left on a cliff hanger, making the audience wonder what is going to happen to them and whether the birds will end up following them or not. Therefore, building up more tension and suspense. Camera shots:
Medium shot: This shot was used through the film, the reason for this was to allow the audience to see what is going on and to keep the sense of normality throughout the film.
Close up: This was used within the film, the reason for this is because it allows the audience to focus on a certain people or object, to give a better effect towards the audience. Therefore, this was used when she was getting in the shower for the audience to see what she was doing but also to build up tension making the audience wonder if anything is going to happen to her.
Extreme close up: This was mainly used when the young girl was killed when she was in the shower, the reason for this is because it allows the audience to see that the young girl has been killed. Not just this, but it zooms into her eye to allow the audience to see what has happened.
Tracking shot: This was used when the young ladies blood was traveling down the plug whole, this allows the audience to see where it is going and that the lady has been badly hurt. Not just this, but it allows gives good effect.
Long shot: This was used throughout the film, the reason for this is to allow the audience to see what is going on. However, this was not used in any exact scene as it was used in any of them just to allow the audience to see what is going on.
Wide shot: This was also used to allow the audience to see what was going on around them and in the whole of the scene. Also giving the wide shot to show what is in the background and where about's she is.
Rolling shot: This was used when the they was zoomed in on the young ladies eye, the way that it was used was when, the camera was zooming out they used the rolling shot to give a better effect.
Cran shot: This was also effectively used on the eye of the young lady, the reason for this is because as they used the rolling shot they also use the cran shot at the same time. The reason for this is so that the audience is able to see what is going on and it also gives more effect to what has happened to the young lady.
Low angle: This is used when the man i walking up the stairs once he enters the house, the reason that they do this is to make the man look small and powerless, almost like something bad is going to happen to him, therefore, building up tension and suspense for the audience and making the wonder what is going to happen.
Narrative within this film:
The narratives that where used in this film is that they used the traditional Hollywood narrative structure. The reason we know this is because Alfred Hitchcock used the three method structure, set up (25%), the confrontation (50%), climax (25%). This was also a closed text, the reason for this is because the audience found out who the murder was and what happened to the young lady and the officer. I believe that all of the narrative theory's were used within the films.
